There is plenty of climbing in Leicestershire and the Midlands - it is just a case of hunting it out. The Leicestershire guide book is now out of print although we do have a laminated copy in the Tower and would be happy to provide you with a photocopy.

There are many issues with a few of the crags and quarries and we advise that people are sensative to the requirements of the landowners. There are a few areas where climbing is not permitted, access issues can be found here and click on the Midlands. Places like the Brand do require you to contact them before you go and you are advised to contact the park management if you intend to take a group to the Outwoods.

At present the new guide book for Leicestershire is being worked on and it will be made available for viewing in this section of the site. You can find an on-line guide of the old one here

The second edition of West Midlands Rock sold out in 2003 and the guide is now out of print. If you are planning to vist the West Midalnds and are looking for places to climb, then take a look here

The purpose of the website is to provide, in the short term, updated information for the crags, including details of new routes and changes in access.

This website should therefore be used in conjunction with the guide as it provides a supplement of the recent activity.

A new guide is not in preparation but they are hopeful that the website will generate sufficient interest to enable production of the next edition.

There are quite a few climbing clubs in the Midlands and around Leicestershire offering a variety of different trips and outings. Climbing Clubs are often the best ways to meet new people in the same area as yourself all with similar interests.

They usually meet once a week and climb at the weekends. The type of trips and outings they do vary from club to club. There are generally some form of subs or membership fee, again this is dependant on the club and what they do.
